The UK’s University and Colleges Admissions Services (UCAS)

does not specify acceptable levels of English language proficiency.

Their guidance advises applicants to check the language level requirements of individual colleges and universities before making an application.

Typical requirements for colleges and UK university degree programmes in the UK are:

(B1/Entry 3) ; (B2 / Level 1); (C1 / Level 2)

In the UK, those exams are regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual).

Pearson English language qualifications are aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

IELTS

If you are applying for College/University admission in the UK you need the Full Qualification (Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing).

 

ESOL Level 1 (B2 CEFR) “Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing” Certificate

  • Results within 7 days
  • Certificates received within 4 weeks

This exam is suitable for European or Settled candidates applying for College/University Admission in the UK (IELTS Band 5.5 – 6.5)

ESOL Level 2 (C1 CEFR) “Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing” Certificate

  • Results within 7 days
  • Certificates received within 4 weeks

This exam is suitable for European or Settled candidates applying for College Admission in the UK (IELTS Band 7 – 8)

Exam only fee – £300

Minimum 10 hours of training required – £100

If you are a non – European candidate (on a Visa in the UK ) and applying for College/University Admission in the UK from 6th April 2015 you are required to take IELTS or Trinity College London exam.
