We offer Preparation Courses for the following Trinity Secure English Language Test (SELT).
Indefinite Leave to Remain (to settle) or British Citizenship (B1)
For Indefinite Leave to Remain (to settle) or British Citizenship you must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in at least CEFR level B1 in Speaking and Listening.
Trinity’s GESE Grade 5 exam = CEFR B1
- 10 minute speaking and listening test
- Next day Provisional results
- Certificate received usually within 7 days
Further Leave to Remain (extension visa) (A2)
For a Further Leave to Remain (extension visa), required two and a half years after passing an A1 test, you must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in at least CEFR level A2 in Speaking and Listening.
Trinity’s GESE Grade 3 exam = CEFR A2
- 7 minute speaking and listening test
- Next day provisional results
- Certificate received usually within 7 days
Further Leave to Remain (A1)
For Further Leave to Remain you must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in at least CEFR level A1 in Speaking and Listening.

- 6 minute speaking and listening test
- Next day provisional results
- Certificate received usually within 7 days
Who is the SELT preparation course for?
This course is to prepare you for the SELT A1, A2 or B1 exam needed for your Home Office application in the UK. We aim to improve your speaking and listening skills to a sufficient level, which will help you to pass your SELT exam and also help you in everyday life.
What will the SELT preparation course involve?
The content of the course will vary depending on the needs of the learners. You will review and practice language functions, grammar, lexis and phonology. You will also familiarize yourself with the SELT exam structure and criteria and have the 1st part of the exam ready. The training materials are also provided together with details guidance on how to pass the exam first time.
If you are having difficulty speaking conversational English and need training from a bilingual teacher then we also provide that as part of your training. We will prepare you fully before we book your exam.
After the training we will register and book your Trinity SELT (Speaking and Listening) exam.
What do CEFR, SELT and GESE mean?
- CEFR = Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
- SELT = Secure English Language Test
- GESE = Graded Examinations in Spoken English

From 12th November 2015 for UK Home Office applications made for Settlement /ILR / Naturalisation / Citizenship state that applicants are required to:
1) Pass the Life in the UK Test
2) Have a speaking & listening qualification at B1 CEFR or higher (or an equivalent level qualification) on the Home Office Secure English Language Test (SELT) List.
The number of training days bellow depends on your level of English which is checked trough our Initial assessment during the registration process.
